IFG students studying our Foundation Programmes in Business Management, Computer Science, Social Sciences and Engineering also have the option of progressing to undergraduate study in Australia at either Griffith University on the Gold Coast, Queensland or The University of Tasmania. This allows IFG to secure offers for successful students, who prefer to study for their undergraduate degree in Australia rather than the UK.
Apart from the difference in culture and the weather there are a few important differences between studying in the UK and Australia. Firstly, In the UK an undergraduate Honours (Hons) degree usually takes 3 years. However, in Australia an honours degree typically involves an additional year of study beyond your bachelor’s degree, so 4 years in total. Also,in the UK students usually study one specific subject from year 1 whereas in their 1st year in Australia students take a range of classes and the choose two subjects for a double or combined degree.
The application process in the UK and Australia is also slightly different. In the UK students apply for up to 5 universities via The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). However, in Australia applications are made directly to each university.
However, remember whether you study in the UK or Australia university life is very similar and a wonderful opportunity to make friends for life.
