The course comprises six compulsory modules and two electives.
Business Research Methods & Data Analysis
This module provides students with an opportunity to develop the skills required for studying at graduate level focusing on research methods for business. In studying this module, students are supported to develop an original piece of work that should be driven by their own initiative and personal interest. They will be required to develop a research proposal and complete a major project in the form of a dissertation which builds on their proposal. In undertaking this module, they will develop academic skills which will see them develop as critical thinkers and gain analytical skills which help in presenting complex arguments.
Strategic Management & Leadership
This module introduces the key themes associated with strategic management and leadership in diverse organisational contexts. Students have the opportunity to critically explore strategic management and how leadership plays a crucial role in our contemporary, increasingly diverse society. The module is designed to ensure that students develop as critical thinkers and strategists to be able to perform in high-performance uncertain environments.
Entrepreneurship
Students are supported to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and a critical in-depth understanding of the concept of entrepreneurship. This module will equip students with the necessary skills that are crucial to creating value in an increasing knowledge economy. There will be an emphasis on how students can apply creativity to entrepreneurial activity. The focus will be directed at the significance of entrepreneurship in facilitating the creation of organisations which have commercial value.
People in Organisations
The module explores the main issues in contemporary organisational behaviour. Organisational behaviour aims to understand human behaviour in the workplace, and this shapes the management approach to managing people. The module will give students the opportunity to understand how organisations and the behaviour of employees in the workplace have changed in the 21st century. Organisations need to be sustainable in the ever-increasing business environment and they must brace for the ever-changing behaviour of the people it needs to thrive in a very dynamic environment.
Financial Management
Students are supported to develop their financial knowledge and have a grounded understanding of management uses financial/accounting information to evaluate internal decision making. Concepts such as performance measurement to access a firm’s performance will be explored, the management of financial structure for organisations as well as its implications for financial management.
Strategic Marketing
This module aims to impart knowledge and understanding of Marketing as a strategic function of organisations. It helps students develop an understanding of the rationale behind marketing in organisations and how it fits into the organisational strategy. The module highlights the role of strategic marketing management in 21st-century organisations which are operating in a highly dynamic business environment shaped by competition and globalisation.
Project Management
This module provides students with an opportunity to develop the skills required for studying at graduate level with a focus on the understanding of project management and its principles in a contemporary project environment.
Project management is now part of the contemporary management paradigm which sees organisations improve their overall results and deliver projects of high quality, on time and within budget. Students are supported to carry out individual project tasks that range from construction of a new building to the launch of new product or outsourcing previous in-house functions to the re-engineering of products, services and processes.
Students studying this module will develop crucial project management skills that will see them gain insights on latest best practices in the field of project management.
Sustainability & Ethical Leadership
This module introduces students to sustainability and the ethical choices businesses face. Businesses have their own moral norms, which often differ from those in society at large. Students will have an opportunity to understand that while both business and social norms evolve over time, they vary between cultures. This is where ethical leadership comes in as organisations try to navigate the ethical challenge that supports its overall corporate strategy.
Corporate Governance that is reinforced by the culture of the organisation is crucial to good corporate citizenship. The students will have a chance to develop a critical understanding of the nature, behaviour and the likely outcomes of organisations as well as how ethical leadership supported by sustainability drives organisational performance. The module explores the relationships of ethics and society in an increasingly global society.
Risk Management
Risk Management provides students with a good understanding of the concepts and principles of risk management. You will develop skills that will enable you to identify, measure and articulate risk. Students will be able to critically apply the principles of risk management to the management of risk portfolios in a business context which can be applied to a range of product and service industries.
Human Resource Management
This module aims to impart knowledge and understanding of human resource management (HRM) as one of the primary organisational functions. It aims to expose the significant strategic role of HRM in a 21st-century organisation that is operating in a highly dynamic business environment shaped by knowledge and globalisation. In studying this module, students will have the opportunity to appreciate some of the complex challenges that organisations must manage such as employee motivation, diversity management, staff engagement and retention and the changing nature of the workplace which organisations have to ensure that it fits into the overall strategy of the organisation.
